A New York Chinese family suspects their nanny of being an inside agent who s

According to the *World Journal*, a Chinese-language newspaper in the US, a Chinese family in Flushing, Queens, New York, reported a theft to the 109th Precinct on the 12th, alleging that their live-in nanny had stolen cash, diamond rings, jewelry, and watches worth tens of thousands of dollars.
The nanny, a woman from Guangdong province referred to as "Aunt Liu," had been hired through an advertisement to care for the family's child for nearly a month. She is approximately 50 years old, about 5 feet 5 inches tall, weighs around 130 pounds, has fair skin, and short hair. The victims expressed their misfortune and hoped the public would provide leads on the suspect and learn from their experience. They said, "Thankfully, the child is unharmed. If the nanny had done anything to the child, I would have gone crazy."
The victims, who have lived on 58th Avenue in Flushing for nearly ten years, said their daughter is only a year and a half old. They placed an advertisement to hire a live-in nanny, and Aunt Liu from Guangdong applied. The victim said, "Aunt Liu lives in Brooklyn. She usually stayed at our house and only went home on weekends. My wife and I didn't think too much about it, and we didn't have a photo or any identification of her."
The victims said Aunt Liu's behavior was "strange" on a daily basis. "She often had a mysterious expression, seemed preoccupied, and would stare blankly or act strangely. She claimed to have been in the US for about three to five years," and one day she even disappeared for several hours without a word. The victims considered Aunt Liu's behavior outrageous and dismissed her on the 3rd. It wasn't until the 11th, when they checked their belongings, that they discovered several thousand dollars in cash that had been safely stored away was missing. They immediately checked other valuables and found that their diamond rings, jewelry, and watches were also gone.
The victim reminded the public that when hiring a nanny, "you must check their work permit and ID. Applicants with ulterior motives will not dare to show their documents."
A reporter interviewed several employment agencies regarding this incident. Red Apple Employment Agency stated that the nanny profession is sensitive, and they require applicants to appear in person and provide basic information such as name, phone number, and experience. However, they have no right to inquire about their immigration status. They advise employers to request copies of identification documents from employees. A staff member at the agency said, "Flushing is a small place, and people don't work the same job forever. Many familiar faces come back looking for work, which makes it relatively safer."
A staff member at Flushing Public Employment Agency stated that their agency holds a government license and currently handles fewer "nanny/housekeeper" jobs. The staff member said, "We need to be responsible. If a nanny theft incident occurs, it would be very troublesome. Therefore, we have handled fewer of these types of jobs in recent years. However, if we do refer a nanny, we require the job seeker to provide identification documents to the employer."
